COUNTY RECOGNIZED FOR FINANCIAL EXCELLENCE
Caudill says Award is testament to excellent work being done every day at the County
During this week’s Board of County Commissioners meeting Oklahoma County received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association for their comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2006. A letter from Director Stephen J. Gauthier stated, “The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.” Mr. Gauthier’s letter also noted the Award of Financial Reporting Achievement is presented to Carolynn Caudill and the County Clerk’s Office since her office is primarily responsible for the county having earned the Certificate. Caudill is quick to point out that although the award comes to her, it is really an award for the entire county. She stated, “We depend on and work very closely with the Treasurer’s Office and other county offices to get the accurate information needed to prepare this annual report.” “This award is a testament to the excellent work being done every day within county government”, Caudill added. The CAFR was judged by an impartial panel as having met the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR. Caudill said, “There is a lot of discussion these days about the need for transparency in government, mainly at the state and federal level. I am a strong proponent of ‘transparency in county government’, and this award is evidence Oklahoma County is and has been providing the public transparency in government. This is the 13th straight year the county has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.” The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 16,000 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL, and Washington, D.C.
