January 7, 2008.  The Oklahoma County Clerk’s Office has become aware that some Oklahoma County residents are receiving letters from an out-of-state company offering to sell the homeowner a certified copy of their deed for $69.50.

National Deed Service, Inc. out of Northbrook, Illinois has sent mass mailings to residents across the United States.  Many Recorders and District Attorneys are warning residents to - “Beware of companies that try to make a profit off of information that’s already available for little cost.”

Having a copy of your deed is helpful for record-keeping, but is not essential.  Your deed is a public record and is permanently maintained and preserved at the Oklahoma County Clerk’s Office.  Anytime you do need a certified copy the cost is $1.00 a page and $1.00 for certification.  In most cases the total cost will be between $2 and $3.

You can also view and print (for free) a non-certified copy of your deed from our website at: http://countyclerk.oklahomacounty.org

If you have any questions or need assistance please contact the Recorder of Deeds Office at 405-713-1540.
